Like church carvings and stained glass windows, mystery plays were a good way of teaching Bible stories to ordinary people who could not read or write.In this scene, the Devil is seen tempting Jesus in the wilderness. Each section of a mystery play was mounted on a wagon and drawn to a series of stations throughout the town.
