Lucy Stevens, 31, and partner Glen Carloss, 34, from Surrey, purchased a 2009 bus from New York in November 2019. On their first date, the couple bonded over their shared dream of owning a big vehicle to do a road trip and a few months later looked into getting one together. They had the bus shipped over from the US, arriving in Southampton in March 2020, just in time to spend lockdown renovating it in a local yard. "When the bus arrived, it was in original condition and still had kids' toys and sick notes left on it," Lucy, who works as a nanny, told Jam Press. "It had the names of the students written on the sides of the seats. "It was mind-blowing to see it in person and to think about its previous use, and what we were about to turn it into." In total, the couple spent ?L50,000 on the renovations, which were completed in October 2020 after seven months of hard work. The bus required a complete makeover and the creative duo set about ripping the seats out, pulling up the floor, treating any rust and putting new flooring down. They insulated the vehicle in April 2020 before wiring it with new electrics and plumbing. The couple then created a floor plan to make the best use of the tight space, ensuring there was room for a dining area, lounge, desk, bathroom, kitchen and bedroom and created a wooden frame. They fitted walls to separate off the different rooms and then installed the kitchen complete with sink, fridge, electric oven and gas hob as well as the bathroom.
