What did you achieve in lockdown? An artist and designer built a jaw-dropping reading tower for his family in his yard. The 10ft-high creation ??" entitled Biblio-Pavilion ??" features bookcases, a staircase, and areas to sit and read. Jiri Prihoda, who lives in Austin, Texas, exhibits around the world in normal times, said he wanted to create a space to move away from screens indoors. He explains: ??sThe need of extensive home office use in 2020 led me to create Biblio-Pavilion, a place where you can escape from the computer screen and submerge yourself into the parallel reality of printed medium simply by lounging on the floor of the morphed interior made of soft fabric flooded by day light.??? Although initially, Biblio-Pavilion was constructed in high-end 3-D software tools, Jiri intentionally decided to prepare each constructed part and build it entirely on his own with ordinary hobby market materials and electric hand tools. Jiri says he considers this long-term Covid lockdown barring intercontinental travel as an unexpected opportunity to ??sreturn to hand-made structures and immediate activities at your home ??" free from technical perfection and expectations of a professional world.??? ??sLet???s appreciate this halted time as a moment when through reading and thinking, we can reconsider our being and move onto better times,??? he adds.
