Wives of Principality high officials are dressed like Tibetans in Peitzumiao, Inner Mongolia in 1936. Their clothes are ornamented with coral and gems like jade, amber and agate. They might often be dressed up Tibetan fashion, but in features, they resemble more the Miao tribe. In all probability, they are all hybrids. Two women on the right are married and the one of the left is a maiden. To see the Mongolian ladies walk with a stately tread in their gaudiest holiday attire will suggest a spectacle in an ancient classical play. (AP Photo)
