Cuba has the second largest area planted with tobacco worldwide. The centre of Cuban tobacco production is the Pinar del R?o Province, in the West of the island. The two main varieties of tobacco grown in Cuba are Corojo, used for wrappers because of the large shaped leaves, and Criollo. Cuba has the perfect environment for growing tobacco for cigars. The soil allows the plants to produce high quality leaves. The leaves used for the wrappers, considered the most important part of the cigar, attain an exceptionally perfect form in Cuba. The weather is also key, the subtropical humid climate is ideal for both the growing and the drying of the plants.
