Farmers shelter seedlings from the baking sun with the use of bamboo woven sheets. The unusual scene took place at a plant nursery in Munshiganj, Dhaka, Bangladesh. Rayhan Ahmed, 36, said, "Bangladesh is an agricultural country so here seedlings are being tended to in seedbeds before they continue growing in the fields. The seedbeds are being nursed by the farmers so the seedlings grow into healthy crops for a high yield. Plants such as cauliflower, cabbage, tomatoes, broccoli, eggplant, and chillies can not be planted directly into fields." "Seeds are planted here and once they have strong roots they are then transferred to the field as a plant. The advantage is better care so the plants grow strong and fresh. The temperature and moisture levels in the soil are easier to control in these seedbeds." "These covers are used to maintain a cooler temperature to protect the young seedlings from excessive sun heat or excessive rain. This method is not very common in this country. Seedlings are produced in this way in a few arid areas and farmers from different districts come and buy saplings from here."
