A pair of pelicans toss a fish out of shallow waters as they compete against one another for their potential meal. The pelicans juggled the fish between them off the coast of Sebastian Inlet State Park, Melbourne Beach, Florida. ??The pair were pictured by Nancy Koch, 64. She said, “I captured the shots by standing on the shoreline and observing the pelicans as they flew and swam around while fishing for food.”??“It was difficult to anticipate when or where a fish might jump up into the air, and the speed at which the action happened made it challenging to capture and focus. My favourite thing about the shots is the action and concentration of the pelican as it tries to catch the fish before it returns to the water.”??“When dolphins feed in shallow areas, they spook the fish, causing them to jump in the air. The pelicans are smart enough to know this and wait for the dolphins to enter the area before chasing after them in the hopes of catching a fish. This is not an easy series to capture, and I was fortunate and pleased to have captured these images and recorded this funny series.” Please byline: Nancy Koch/Solent News © Nancy Koch/Solent News & Photo Agency UK +44 (0) 2380 458800 *** Local Caption *** 1.
