Story from Jam Press (Alien Cafe) Pictured: Inside the Giger Museum and Bar. Inside Europe's creepiest bar that looks like an ALIEN skeleton – with direct link to the famous film franchise Booze-loving Brits looking for an interesting experience abroad can visit a bar inspired by the Alien movie franchise – designed by the artist who worked on the films. The drinking spot, which is also a museum of sorts, may well be the creepiest bar in Europe – with the chairs, walls and tables all made to resemble extraterrestrial skeleton bones. Located in St Germain, Switzerland, it was created by the late Swiss artist Hans Ruedi Giger. He was part of the special effects team that won the Academy Award for Best Achievement in Visual Effects for their design work on the film Alien. Giger worked across the entire franchise, including the later Predator additions. In an effort to take his creations further, he created H.R. Giger – a museum and bar that is home to the most comprehensive permanent display of his artwork, spanning across hi 40-year career. Housed inside a 400-ear-old, four-story medieval chateau on a hill, the venue has a labyrinthine structure with two meter-thick walls. The museum bar took four years to complete, as reported by What's The Jam. It has a cavernous, skeletal structure covered by double arches of vertebrae that criss-cross the vaulted ceiling. The ceiling, walls, floors, fittings, tables and chairs are all created in the style of the artist’s acclaimed alien bio-mechanical environment and character designs. Giger wanted to create an experience to recall the tale of Jonah and The Whale from the bible, lending the feel of being literally in the belly of a fossilised, prehistoric beast. Or that you have been transported into the remains of a mutated future civilisation. Giger bar is just a short train ride from Zurich or Geneva, and can be booked online but is also available for walk-ins. ENDS
