Water load of fun by wetting the baby's head.... Orangutans ape-reciate some water as they look to get a good cooling off in excessive heat. These young Borneo orangutans are seen playfully splashing and washing in a small body of water during a hot day in Ragunan Zoo, Jakarta, Indonesia. Irawan Subingar, 61, said, “Bornean Orangutans are common in their natural environment but are in need of conservation. I had been observing their behaviour here from a distance for hours.” “In the photo, a baby Orangutan can be seen wetting its head with water. This happens during hot weather and although orangutans are not afraid of water, not all of them are good swimmers, so they are cautious and don't know how to use the water to cool off.” Please byline: Irawan Subingar/Solent News © Irawan Subingar/Solent News & Photo Agency UK +44 (0) 2380 458800 *** Local Caption *** When and where were these shots taken? Are they in the wild or captivity? They are in captivity, some kind of conservation park, taken in 2023 What species of Orangutan is this? If they are wild, are they common to see here? Bornean Orang Utan (pongo pygmaaeus), they are common in their natural environment Can you describe what is happening in these images? they are just like human, easily annoyed by bugs It looks as though they are posing up for the camera would you agree? yes, i agree Can you give us an insight into the moments leading up to this as well as directly after? they just keep busy playing with others, just like human do How were you able to capture these images? i have been hanging around with them for hours and hours, watching their behaviour in a distance Is there any more information you would like us to include? i guess not And finally, what is your preferred full name, age and occupation? my name : Irawan Subingar, 61yo, photographer Extra info - The orangutan was actually playing with his 2 year old brother, when he was playing, a bee suddenly came flying near his face. The orangutan's facial expression was recorded on camera. The bee didn't sting the orangutan, nor did the orangutan kill the bee, both were fine. For the photo of the baby orangutan wetting its head with water, it just so happened that the weather was hot at that time, orangutans are not afraid of water, but like most humans, not all of them are good at swimming, but they know how to use water. Photos of orangutans with bee located at Cisarua Safari Park in West Java Indonesia. Photo of orangutans playing in water located at Ragunan Zoo, Jakarta Indonesia.
