Male hare got too close to comfort to the female ENGLAND HILARIOUS images show a female hare engaging in a boxing match with a randy male who got too close for comfort. This male European hare will have followed the female around for days for the chance to mate with her, but these pictures taken in Havergate, Suffolk, show that if the randy male gets too close before she’s ready, she will challenge him to a full-blown boxing match. These exciting images were captured by British wildlife photographer Jessica Jones from West Sussex, who loves to capture the unique behavioural traits of wild animals. “I’ve learnt to recognise the signs when a pair might start boxing,” she said. “The male stays very close to the female and will tailgate her as she moves around, often stopping with his face close to her, examining her every move. “It’s always a massive thrill when they start to box; it happens very quickly, and it always feels like I’ve hit the jackpot. “You need to have a fast shutter speed to freeze the action, which is often frenetic, and my heart is always beating fast so much so that somehow I often forget to breathe in the excitement of wanting to capture the moment. “They are beautiful creatures, mostly seeming so gentle, but when the boxing starts, you can actually hear the thuds as their paws hit each other.” ENDs
