Workers are seen distributing chillis to be dried in the hot summer sun in the Chandripur District, Bangladesh. This process was documented by photographer, Istiyak Ahamed Srabon. The 19 year old said, “Every year in the hot sun during the summer, chillies are dried in this area of Chandpur. the workers take out the chillies from the sacks and let them dry on large mats.” “This drying process goes on all day, the chillies are first sprinkled on the mats, then they are rotated several times and dried well in the sun.” “If there is a good yield of chillis, they are dried in the fields as well as on the roads or backyards nearby. You can get a yield of up to 2 tonnes per hectare” “A mound of dry chilli is sold for between, 4,300 and 4,500 taka (£30 - £32.50) in different local markets of the country. Usually yield of 2 metric tons of pepper is available per hectare. And per maund of dry chili is sold at 4 thousand 300 to 4 thousand 500 taka in different local markets of the country. However, prices increase slightly towards the end of the season. When the demand of the country is met, this pepper is also sold in foreign countries. Generally, pepper of Bogra, Panchagarh is famous in Bangladesh. when i visited Chandpur one year ago then i saw their interesting work then i captured it.
