‘I visited the UK’s worst-rated hotel and I’m surprised I lasted the night’
A man has documented his stay at what he claims is one of the “worst-rated” hotels in the UK, with a mission to give the establishment a chance to “redeem itself”.
The Assheton Arms Hotel in Manchester has just 1.7 stars on Google and 1.5 stars on TripAdvisor.
It’s been described online as “disgusting” and a “nightmare”, with one former guest claiming their family disliked the establishment so much that they reportedly left after just 15 minutes.
Reading the slew of bad reviews and eager to try the venue out for himself, George Redfern, from Wirral, UK, recently booked a one-night stay at £30.
He shared a video of his stay in a now-viral TikTok, jokingly finding perks to the stay – such as the broken TV leading to reduced screen time, and getting “entertainment” from a broken radiator.
The manufacturing administrator told NeedToKnow.co.uk that he was ultimately surprised he lasted the night in the “terrible” hotel.
He claims to have entered his room to find strange “marks” on the walls and a previous guest’s leftover kebab on a seat.
Meanwhile, the 21-year-old couldn’t bring himself to use the shared bathroom, which was allegedly covered in mould and hair.
“I thought this [the price per night] was good value for money as it was a Friday night – you will struggle to find a hotel under £50 anywhere in the UK on a weekend,” George explained.
“I wanted to see if the reviews on the hotel are justified and give the hotel a chance to redeem themselves from all the bad reviews they have been getting.
“I now understand why one commenter said it was the worst night of his life.
