Story from Jam Press (Mum Incontinence) Pictured: The femfit app. 'Incontinence left me housebound and leaking in my own kitchen – I've got my life back thanks to this easy fix' A mum has shared how she was left suffering with incontinence after battling cervical cancer – which was so severe that she was “leaking” while walking around her own kitchen. Renee Brown was just 39 years old when she was forced to undergo a pelvic lymph node removal procedure, having been diagnosed in mid-2019. The mum-of-one also underwent chemo, radiation therapy and internal radiation therapy, which can be incredibly tough on the body. Unfortunately, she believes the treatments also left her with the “debilitating” incontinence issue – which saw her unable to go outside without a lot of scheduling in advance, to ensure a bathroom was always on hand. But now, she’s been given her independence back and it’s all thanks to an easy fix – a sensor, called femfit. “It [the incontinence] was often far more than a dribble and it was happening through the day,” Renee, from Victoria, Australia, told Jam Press. “I frequently couldn’t even make it to the toilet when I woke up. “It was incredibly debilitating.” After unsuccessfully trying patches recommended by her gynaecologist, Renee was advised to try an electromagnetic pad chair. Although this initially yielded a positive outcome, the mum realised that, having developed brittle bones from osteopenia caused by the radiation therapy, the chair was not a practical long-term option. By chance, she spotted a bulletin from Counterpart, a female-led cancer counselling organisation, calling for participants in a study at the University of Melbourne. The research team recommended the pelvic floor training device, femfit, which at the time was only available in Australia and New Zealand.
