Country car boot seller flogs Nazi memorabilia at market, in West Sussex A seller at a country car boot has been spotted flogging what appears to be Nazi memorabilia. The item included a metal sheet with a red swastika painted across it. It was being sold at the Ford Airfield Carboot and Sunday Market in Arundel, West Sussex, yesterday (Sun 7 Jan). The swastika sheet was found scattered among random household goods on the ground – including a cardboard box and vinyl record of Rod Stewart – as shoppers perused the market. At the time Jam Press was at the scene, several shoppers were checking out the goods at this particular stand. However, none approached the sheet – though it is not known if it was sold later in the day. The product was featured in a stand with a van in the background referencing P Ferrett, a house clearance service. Ford Airfield Market and Car Boot Sale was first started 30 years ago and, on its website, describes itself as “one of the best on the south coast” with a “diverse and eclectic” mix of items. Thousands of years ago, the swastika symbol was used as a mark of good fortune in many cultures. It was then re-appropriated by Hitler during World War II and is now considered a sign of hate, often used by extremist groups. Jam Press has contacted the car boot organisers for comment. Jam Press also contacted Patrick Ferrett for right of reply, but he declined to comment. Many countries, including Germany, France and Austria, have banned the sale of Nazi memorabilia. However, it is not currently illegal to sell such products in the UK.
