A little boy is seen leading the procession while holding a plaque that marks the 100 anniversary of this tradition. Every year halfway through the fasting period, around 15,000 crescent-shaped buns of bread are thrown out from a 100 m high hill called 'Kollenberg' for the children of the city in Sittard. The distribution of bread to the poor, especially during Lent, is a tradition that goes way back. Demonstrable in Sittard until the 15th century. The foundation 'the Krombroodrapen Sittard' is celebrating its 100th anniversary this year. It's also recognized as Intangible Cultural Heritage of The Netherlands.
